For sport wearables we are developing a smart shirt that can perform local positionin, heart rate, breathing, temperature, impedance and further biometric sensing as well as direct feedback during the excercise.
The market for smart wearables is growing rapidly, smart wearables are increasingly being used in various sports. There is a need in the market for athletes, for example, to gain insight into health by means of measuring and monitoring body functions. Smart wearables are increasingly being used to do this. However, there are some problems with these existing smart wearables.
The challenge in the development of the running shirt is mainly to remove the movement artifacts in order to obtain an accurate and usable signal. The main problem is a lack of data and translation of data during the excerice, but also afterwards.
Together with one of our partners, we are now able to remove most of the movement artifacts by laminating the shirt and add software filters. With the information provided by the Textile Coach, a runner can make health and performance enhancing decisions during the excercise. In order te get a usable signal, the feedback provided by the Textile Coach will be displayed on a smart watch. The smart watch will give a vibration to inform the athlete that the feedback is available. In this way the athlete only has to look at his watch when it is needed. In the application, athletes can review their progress in order to manage their progression and adapt their training schedules to their needs.
